Healthy Kids Ambassador

Gemma:

Tell me a bit about yourself.

Cynthia:

We have been in Aurora about 6 years. We were in High Park for about 10 years prior to that. We have enjoyed living in Aurora immensely. I work part time in Aurora Montessori. The Town is very welcoming and extremely active. Our kids are 10 and 7 and my husband works for a firm and travels for a business consulting work.

Gemma:

What inspires you to be healthy?

Cynthia:

We have always been, it comes naturally to us. We are from a small town and growing up we were outside all the time. We didn't grow up with much TV, we were always out swimming or hiking.

Gemma:

What is your favourite outdoor activity?

Cynthia:

Anything that involves trees, we love Killarney Provincial Park. My husband didn't grow up camping, but he has really learned to love it. He is now most relaxed when he is away from his phone, outdoors.

Gemma:

Where is your favourite place in aurora?

Cynthia:

We love the trails in the North-West area. We often bike the trails from by Devins Drive P.S. right to Downtown Newmarket.

Gemma:

What is your favourite season?

Cynthia:

We love fall, we are less busy with organised activities and do a lot of hiking. I love the beautiful colours.

Gemma:

What are some tips for being healthy?

Cynthia:

Move your body at every opportunity. Walk as much as you can, put it into your daily life instead of following some routine that doesn't suit your personality.

Gemma:

What is your favourite meal to whip up?

Cynthia:

We eat everything and anything. The males of our family are lovers of meat, while us girls prefer fish. We eat a lot of Thai and Indian cuisine. We use a lot of whole grains, fruits and vegetables in our food and love using the crock pot for soups. In our family you eat what mom and dad make for dinner.

Be a Healthy Kids Ambassador

Throughout the year we will be featuring someone from the community who serves as a great example for our children by keeping active and eating healthy.

If you know somebody who would make a great Healthy Kids Ambassador — please submit their name for consideration.
