Healthy Kids Aurora Ambassadors

Meet our latest Healthy Kids Ambassador July 2017

Elise

Aurora, Ontario

Royden our healthy kids Ambassador

Elise is a local Aurora resident with two sons, 9 and 12 years old. She and her family frequent the local recreation centres and keep up a busy schedule of team sports and family activity.

Kathleen:

How long have you and your family been living in Aurora, and what are your favourite things about it?

Elise:

We moved to Aurora in 2005 looking for more open space and were attracted to the old part of Aurora, the Town Park, and farmers’ market. We love the community feel, the people, and having access to a lot of green space and activities for the kids to participate in.

Kathleen:

Why is it important for you to stay healthy and active?

Elise:

Staying active makes us feel better and we really enjoy playing sports as our main form of exercise. We have a lot of fun together in the process. Everyone in the family supports each other in making healthy choices such as eating well.

Kathleen:

What are some of your favourite ways to be active with your family?

Elise:

We love playing hockey and basketball together, but also enjoy going out for walks, bike rides and playing ping pong!

Kathleen:

Tell me about some of the ways you help promote healthy lifestyles in the community.

Elise:

Both my husband and I spend a lot of time coaching kids basketball and hockey in town and also run a charity hockey tournament around Christmas time. I am advocating to change the food at our health centres and community centres to be healthier and better for the kids and community.

Be a Healthy Kids Ambassador

Throughout the year we will be featuring someone from the community who serves as a great example for our children by keeping active and eating healthy.

If you know somebody who would make a great Healthy Kids Ambassador — please submit their name for consideration.
