This data is available due to pre-retrofit and post-retrofit EnerGuide Home Energy Evaluations conducted by Registered Energy Advisors. The data is collected and maintained by Natural Resources Canada.
This display is made in cooperation with Natural Resources Canada and is aimed at providing accessible information on energy evaluations and home retrofit performance throughout Toronto.
We have utilized never displayed data to provide novel information on residential emissions, showing the impact of home energy upgrades in fighting climate change.
Many environmental organizations including ourselves at Windfall Centre provide EnerGuide home energy evaluations. This display uses the data from all energy evaluations in Toronto and are broken down into initial and post retrofit energy assessments.
Retrofits in this context are an upgrade made to a house that increases it's energy efficiency. Common examples include replacing furnaces and adding insulation but can also include renovations like fuel switching or heat pump integration.
Initial Energy Evaluations are detailed home assessments that are used to create customized reports of a home's energy use. These reports also provide tailored insights on the best retrofits to make homes more energy efficient.
Post Retrofit Energy Evaluations are provided after the initial assessment and show how much a home's energy efficiency has improved based on the upgrades made.
Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions are based on home fuel use from electricity, natural gas, and/or other fuel sources. These emissions are displayed as tCO2e/house/yr; this means the tonnes of CO2 (or equivalent amount of other GHGs) that are emitted from a house through fuel use per year.
To focus on a specific area, you can click the downwards arrow on the top right to select one or more district from a drop-down.
You can click on any chart or graph to filter the whole display by your selection. You can select multiple criteria by holding CTRL.
By clicking on the downwards arrow on a graph's top toolbar, you can enable the drilldown feature. This lets you drill down the timeline into more specific years, quarters, months or even dates.
