Celebrating Sustainability in York Region

For over 20 years, Windfall Ecology Centre has continued to connect the York Region community to environmental sustainability through our strategic programs that support climate action efforts. Through the annual York Region Sustainability Awards, we recognize those in the public and private sectors making significant leaps in sustainability and contributing to reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions.

The 2022 York Region Sustainability Awards, our first in-person award since the pandemic, will hold on September 29, 2022, from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm. The three-hour award event promises to be memorable with an exciting lineup, including award presentations to our 2022 climate action leaders in different categories, a panel of corporate executives sharing inspiring stories on climate action.

Our venue for this year's award is 'The Armoury' in Aurora, a magnificent 145-year-old structure renovated with state-of-the-art technology for modern-day use. The Armoury facilitates a sense of the sharing economy which supports the sustainability of increasing the value of assets. The building's climate action and sustainability story of renovating and repurposing, rather than demolishing, easily informed our choice of venue for our 2022 sustainability awards.

Guests at the event will be treated to tantalizing hors d'oeuvres with wine and beer from the Armoury's kitchen, which also functions as a teaching kitchen for the Niagara College Wine and Food students in support of local food and wine education. Our guests will also have the opportunity to network while enjoying the view of the beautiful large indoor area and the connected outdoor spaces at the Armoury.

Winners of the 2022 York Region Sustainability award will emerge from categories under our ClimateWise Business Network and ClimateWise Building Challenge programs. Winners will be selected based on inspiring climate action success stories, contribution to collective climate action in York Region, recorded milestones indicating growth and participation toward climate action and demonstrated achievements of Greenhouse Gas reduction targets set for 2022.
