2021 Crest Awards

Countdown to the 2021 CREST Awards Event Begins!

The Commercial Real Estate Sustainability Trailblazer's (CREST) Award, organized by BOMA Toronto, a leading Commercial Real Estate Industry Association, will be held on September 16th, 2021. The annual award ceremony is a platform to recognize and celebrate Climate Action leaders making significant and evident strides in the industry. The award ceremony kicks off at 2:00 pm with a pre-show networking session and ends at 5:00 pm with a post-show networking session. Attendance is strictly by invitation and restricted to participants, partners and involved networks.

This year, BOMA Toronto partnered with Windfall Centre's ClimateWise Business Network to expand its reach to participants in the York Region to boost participation at the provincial level. Consequently, participants from the ClimateWise Building Challenge also can compete in the BOMA race2reduce challenge. ClimateWise Building Challenge is a York Region-based friendly awards and recognition competition launched last year by Windfall Centre's ClimateWise Business Network. This initiative creates an opportunity for building owners and tenants to receive recognition for their energy management activities. ClimateWise Building Challenge is BOMA's first Regional Ally.

Winners to be honoured at the 2021 CREST Awards would emerge from participants in BOMA Toronto's race2reduce competition. The race2reduce challenge is a free and friendly provincial corporate challenge created by BOMA Toronto. The competition serves as an avenue for the Commercial Real Estate Industry to advance climate action by inspiring better building performance, innovation and collaboration between owners, landlords and tenants. For the 2021 competition, BOMA Toronto received an impressive 125 entries from which winners would be selected. The selected trailblazers in five categories: Performance Leadership, Innovative Excellence, Collaborative Excellence, Climate Champion, and the Municipal Beacon Award, honouring the climate action demonstrated by a municipality.

Speaking at the award ceremony in September is the inspiring Dr. Richard Munang, the current Africa Regional Climate Change Coordinator at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). He is responsible for guiding the implementation of UNEP's climate-resilient development strategy at national and regional levels to ensure human well-being by coordinating diverse projects in adaptation and mitigation. Dr. Munang will address, "The built environment and climate action: From regulation to opportunity. An urgent paradigm for accelerated progress towards net-zero emissions."
