EnerGuide Home Energy Evaluation

Certified Home Energy Assessments

Independent advice from a non-profit organization

A Windfall Home Energy Evaluation provides an objective review of the energy use in your home and determines a rating for the house based on a scientific assessment and the EnerGuide Rating System.

Windfall's Registered Home Energy Advisors are licensed by Natural Resources Canada. A pioneer in home energy efficiency, we performed our first Home Energy Audit over 15 years ago and have assessed and retrofitted many thousands of homes as well as entire communities from Southern Ontario to the Far North.

Windfall is an active member of Green Communities Canada who, In 1997, piloted the original EnerGuide for Houses program with Natural Resources Canada. Windfall Centre was one of the leading delivery agents for this federal government initiative.

In 2006, we designed and delivered a program to assist low income families in Southern Ontario. The goal of the project was to improve the energy efficiency of their homes and decrease their energy bills, while improving the comfort and health of their homes. In 2012, this program was expanded into the Home Assistance Program by the Ontario Power Authority and is now available to all income eligible families across Ontario.

Home Energy Evaluation

The first step to energy efficiency

Whether taking advantage of an incentive program or planning a DIY project — the first step to energy saving is to understand where and how you are losing energy so you can make an informed decision and prioritize your upgrades.

  • Improve the comfort of your home
  • Cut heating and cooling costs
  • Ensure you have adequate, healthy ventilation

Windfall is a leader in providing Home Energy Assessments

  • A non-profit organization
  • Certified Energy Advisors
  • Licensed by Natural Resources Canada
  • Complete scientific analysis of your home
  • From basement to attic assessment
  • Pinpoint where you are losing energy
  • Detailed written report

Determine the type of insulation, measure the existing R value of the insulation, determine if adequate and proper venting is in place and make note of any water damage, air leakage or other concerns that should be addressed.

Check for adequate ventilation to ensure that excess moisture and humidity from the bathroom environment is being properly managed.

Check the age and efficiency of the windows, assess the current condition and check for air leakage.

Air Conditioning

Determine the age, model and efficiency of existing air conditioning equipment and include a recommendation for the best upgrade (retrofit) that will achieve peak energy efficiency performance in the hot summer months.

Mechanical Room

Determine the age, model and efficiency of existing heating and furnace equipment, the hot water tank and include recommendations for the best heating upgrades (retrofits) that will achieve peak energy efficiency performance. Additionally, any health and safety concerns will be noted.

Basement Walls

The energy advisor will investigate the current basement insulation levels above and below grade and determine the potential for energy efficiency improvements, taking into account the specific conditions of the area.

Blower Door Test

Homes with air leaks are expensive to both heat and cool and can often seem uncomfortable due to mysterious drafts. A Blower Door test is an integral part of a Home Energy Assessment as it will identify hidden air leaks in your home. A Blower Door is used to depressurize your house allowing air leaks to be identified. You may be very surprised to discover how many small air leaks your home has, which when added together may be the equivalent of one very large gaping hole!

Understand exactly where your home is losing energy and money...

A Windfall Certified Energy Advisor will perform a detailed on-site assessment of your home's energy use. You will be provided with a customized written report which includes your home's Energuide Rating and a checklist of recommended upgrades to improve the energy efficiency of your home and, in some cases, to reduce your water consumption.
