Electric truck company BYD, to open plant in Ontario

"We're bringing back an industry and we're doing it through electrification"

BYD, a Chinese electric vehicle manufacturing company is opening an electric-truck assembly plant in Ontario. Described as China's Tesla, the company plans to hire 40 Canadians, with the intent to expand. BYD will focus on making short-range vehicles such as delivery and garbage trucks.

Soon it will be easier for businesses to buy green vehicles

New green initiative from the Government of Ontario

Ontario is helping businesses buy low-carbon vehicles and technologies that reduce emissions and foster sustainable development, and the province is seeking public input. This investment is part of Ontario's Climate Change Action Plan and is funded by proceeds from the province's cap on pollution and carbon market.

Vaughan unveils Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

Two new charging stations unveiled at Vaughan Operations Centre

Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Minister of Transportation Steven Del Duca speak

Two new Level 2 charging stations are now in service for members of the public at the City of Vaughan's Joint Operations Centre. Developed with the support of the province to expand the EV Charging network across Ontario, the province aims to put nearly 300 additional Level 2 chargers across the province within the Five Year Climate Action Plan.

Funding energy efficiency projects

Lunch seminar at Vaughan City Hall

ClimateWise Business Network, in partnership with Enbridge and the City of Vaughan, hosted a lunch seminar at Vaughan City Hall on Tuesday, March 28th about funding sources available to subsidize the cost of energy efficiency projects. The sold-out event featured speakers from Enbridge and Alectra, and was well attended by members of the York Region business community.

York Region pilots electric bus program

Founding partner brings in 6 electric buses and charging station

York Region Transit will be piloting an electric bus program in partnership with the Town of Newmarket-Tay Power Distribution and the CUTRIC to bring six electric buses and one electric charging station to the Newmarket bus terminal. This program aims to conserve energy and reduce emissions by electrifying the municipal transit fleet.
